Our Evolution Beyond Survival:

Media Strategies for the Next Ten Years
The Allied Media Conference cultivates media strategies for a more just and creative world. It is the primary point of intersection in the U.S. for alternative media makers and committed social justice activists. In June, we will come together on the campus of Wayne State University to share tools and tactics for transforming our communities through media-based organizing. Learn more about the AMC.

Housing Deadline / Kids Track

THE LAST DAY TO RESERVE HOUSING IN THE DORMS is Friday, May 30th.

Also, the INFO section of the AMC website has undergone a massive overhaul. This is your portal to everything you need to know about transportation, food, and housing at the AMC, and much more.

KIDS TRACK

Kids are welcome at the AMC! We believe it is important to introduce media techniques to children and engage them as media makers who have an important voice and point of view. Throughout the weekend there will be a mini Kid's Track of sessions happening in the childcare area, focused on how children can use several different forms of creative media as a form of protest, action and self-expression. Sessions include 'Letter Writing as Activism for Kids and Young People' and 'Kids Making Zines.' We are still accepting session proposals for the Kid's Track! If you want more information or to submit a proposal please email nadia (AT) alliedmediaconference.org.

And if you think it's awesome that kids are welcome at the AMC, please be sure to check "I want to donate $3 for childcare" when you Register.

18 reasons to get hype for AMC08

Click here for descriptions of 18 workshops, panels and film-screenings that will give you a glimpse of how sweet the AMC will be this year.

This is only about 30% of the conference content so look out for a lot more sweetness in the coming days.

The conference this year features several tracks-- think less “railroad tracks” that would route your interest in a particular direction and more “animal tracks” that end up criss-crossing each other repeatedly as they travel in unexpected patterns…

The tracks at this year’s AMC are: the INCITE! Women and Trans People of Color Media Track, the How-to Track, the Media Policy Track, the Popular Education Track and the Youth Media Track.

INCITE! sponsorship of the AMC

INCITE! Women of Color Against Violence Presents
a Women of Color / Trans Folks of Color Track
at the 2008 Allied Media Conference: June 20 - 22 | Detroit, MI

As women and trans people of color making media that directly mingles our personal lives with the political issues we speak on, we face daily racialized, sexualized intimidation, but facing it in isolation from each other is more dangerous. We believe as Audre Lorde did that "it is better to speak, knowing we were never meant to survive." The community of support we create through the INCITE! Track at the Allied Media Conference is vital to our survival as women and trans people of color making media and organizing to end violence within our communities. Equally vital, is the exchange of brilliant ideas, which takes place when we come together. We are all pushing the boundaries of what media is capable of and sharing the lessons of that experience with each other. Please join us in Detroit this June.

Sponsor! Register! No more session proposals!

Hello. Here's some info you need to know about...

1. AMC Sponsorships!
2. Session Proposals!
3. Registration!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1. AMC Sponsorships
Thank you to our sponsors. Without them, we would have to go asking Comcast and AT&T for sponsorships. (JUST KIDDING!)
But seriously, sponsorship is our most important source of funding after conference registrations. Nearly all money from sponsorships and over a third of the entire conference budget goes towards expanding participation in the AMC.
Session Proposal Deadline Extended to March 28
Looking at the session proposals that have come in, we can already tell, this is going to be THE BEST AMC EVER. Seriously-- they are so awesome. And we CAN'T TELL YOU HOW MUCH we appreciate each and every one of you who busted ass to get a session proposal in on time.
A lot of people have asked for more time, so we're going to extend the deadline to March 28th. Go now to the session proposal form.
And now, with the passing of the Spring equinox and daylight savings time, it's time to start making your plans to come to Detroit. You can start by REGISTERING FOR THE CONFERENCE. This is a wonderful form of financial, psychological and emotional support to conference organizers!
Returning to McG'
One of the things we love about holding the AMC at Wayne State is hosting the conference in the McGregor Conference Center. The building was designed in the 1950s by Minoru Yamasaki, considered a master of "romanticized modernism." The crystalline structure of the building is nice to look at and all the rooms receive lots of sunlight. The rooms on the first and second levels open into a two story corridor that runs down the middle, which is great for encouraging interaction between AMC sessions. And there's purple carpeting.
How about registering for the AMC right now?
